MEET AZAM

Born and raised in the heartlands of Singapore, Dr. Azam grew up witnessing first-hand the struggles of the community he was in, and sought to come up with solutions to issues he considered to be holding the majority of Singaporean society back. In particular, the various costs of living were impeding his family growing up, hence Dr. Azam sought to assume political office someday in the hopes of securing a brighter future for the nation.

Dr Azam attended the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2000 before obtaining his PhD in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 2004. It was in University that he truly found an avenue to speak out on issues near and dear to him, particularly costs of living for the average Singaporean.

After obtaining his PhD, Dr. Azam went on to found Eureka! Singapore, a consultancy and youth training firm, and served as Chairman from 2006 – 2010. From 2010 – 2013, Dr. Azam served as an Executive Member of the Sembawang Group Representation Constituency.

As an Executive Member, he was responsible for spearheading various community outreach initiatives such as, among others, the annual Sembawang Food Bank & Donation Drive and All-Sembawang Community Fest. The need to pay it forward was strong for Dr. Azam, which saw him join the United People’s Movement (UPM) in 2013. His tenacity and fervent unequivocal belief in championing the needs of the many over the needs of the few led to him assuming UPM Presidency a mere 3 years later in 2016. Under his vision, UPM became a champion for middle-class Singaporeans and a voice to those who, for so long, had no voice and no say.

Dr. Azam believes in inclusive housing, transportation and public utilities policies that do not discriminate any societal, racial or religious group based on income. Voting for Dr. Azam means voting for a Singapore with more accessible opportunities for all. Voting today means securing a better tomorrow, for yourself and for your loved ones.
